OBJECTIVES 

The Village of Grand Beach / Michiana Police Department will attain its goal by the following objectives. We will: 

  • Have innovative, honest, responsive leadership. The staff should never be satisfied with the status quo, but always seek ways to improve all of the department's operations. The staff will set the tone of professionalism, integrity, hard work, receptivity to change, and perfection will be expected. 
  • Provide realistic departmental guidelines and policies. 
  • Recruit and retain the best possible police officers. 
  • Provide quality training for every level of the organization. 
  • Promote police conduct that is responsive and sensitive to the needs of the community. 
  • Require aggressive crime fighting to improve the utilization of patrol and investigative resources in the identification, arrest, and conviction of individuals committing criminal activity within our jurisdiction. 
  • Require a professional work ethic and professional work product by officers engaged in routine police duties, and preliminary and follow-up investigations. 
  • Enhance the role of department personnel in the planning and development process. 
  • Recognize exceptional work by police employees. 
  • Stress the responsibility of all employees to be accountable to the department and the community for all his/her actions.

Fireworks Rules

Michigan, Ordinance 2019-03

Fireworks are legal only on the following days and times:

  • December 31st 11:00 AM ET through January 1st 1:00 AM ET

11:00 AM ET - 11:45 PM ET on:

  • The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day
  • June 29th through July 4th
  • July 5th, IF the date is a Friday or Saturday
  • The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day

Fines are $1,000 per occurrence.

Fireworks are NOT allowed on any public property like the beaches.

Golf Cart Rules

Rules for the Regulation & Use of Golf Carts in the Village of Michiana 

Ordinance 2015 – 00
This ordinance adopts Michigan Vehicle Code Act 300 of 1949 which is attached and a copy of that code will be maintained on the Village Web site with the addition of these provisions:
Provision 1: 

No golf carts or motor vehicle of any type is permitted to be used on the Public Beach without the direct written permission of the Village.

  • The first violation will be a written ticket issued by the police.
  • The Second violation will be a fine payable to the Village of Michiana in the amount of $500.00 and will a violation chargeable to your Driving license record.
  • The Third violation will be the impounding of the vehicle and the owner of record will be charged for all costs for impounding the vehicle and a fee of $1,000 will be assessed to the owner and payable on demand before the vehicle can be released from  impound.

Provision 2:

All golf carts must be registered each year with the Village of Michiana to park on the Village right of way on Lake Shore Drive between Stop 40 and Stop 41 in what is designated as “The Village Beach Parking Area”.  Village of Michiana parking stickers can be purchase at the Village office at the going seasonal charge established each season by the Council.
